Fact of the Day
Boiling Water
Salt raises the boiling point of water so it takes longer to boil the water, but since it makes the water hotter, foods cook faster. In general, solutes (materials that are soluble in liquids) raise the boiling point of the liquid since the solute can bind or hold the water or liquid molecules together ever so slightly. This action does not allow those molecules to change their form to the gaseous state as easily resulting in a higher boiling point.
